Booths has just signed up a new cheese supplier whose face may be more familiar to soap lovers than food lovers! Former Coronation Street actor Sean Wilson will be supplying his acclaimed new range of cheeses to a selection of Booths’ 26 stores.
It’s a big change of direction for Sean who played Martin Platt in the ITV soap before setting up the Saddleworth Cheese Company 18 months ago. The company produces a range of artisan Lancashire cheeses including the two which will be stocked by Booths, the crumbly Muldoon’s Picnic and the medium soft blue Smelly Ha’peth.
Made using Saddleworth milk, the cheeses are already winning rave reviews and Sean’s will even be picking up a top award at this year’s Great British Cheese Festival for his crumbly Lancashire.
Booths cheese buyer Phil Godwin says: “Booths prides itself on offering the best local produce that the region has to offer and we’re very proud of our excellent cheese selection. Sean impressed us instantly – he’s just as passionate about creating great cheese as he is about acting and that shows in the finished product.”
The cheeses will be available in selected stores on the cheese counter from the end of October.
Booths stocks more than 90 varieties of cheese, many of which are made by small local producers. This year Booths’ own label cheeses won a string of awards at the prestigious Nantwich International Show.
Last year Booths also won the title of best multiple retailer for the cheese counter at its Lytham Haven Road store at The Retail Cheese Awards, despite facing tough competition in the final from supermarket chains Waitrose and Morrisons.
The judges were not only impressed by Booths extensive range of cheeses but also the enthusiasm, professionalism and knowledge of its staff.
