Booths is teaming up with Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd to help customers think green and recycle their old Christmas cards again this year.
Booths is stocking Salvation Army Trading Company recycling boxes for old cards in each of its 26 stores across Cumbria, Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cheshire from the end of December until the end of January 2010.
All of the cards collected will be sent to paper mills where they will be recycled into new products. This means that old Christmas cards will be kept out of landfill and the money raised will go to support the work of The Salvation Army in the UK.
More than a billion Christmas cards are sent each year in Britain, yet one in five people still throw their old cards in the bin.
9.7 tons or around 720, 300 used Christmas cards were collected from recycling boxes in Booths stores alone after Christmas 2008.
