Wine enthusiasts are being urged to get into the spirit of Red Nose Day 2011 by stocking up on special bottles of wine.

Local retailer Booths is offering customers the chance to choose from a selection of eight wines that will uncork a flood of cash for this year’s campaign.

Ten per cent of the sale of each bottle sold from 3rd February until 18th March 2011 will go to Comic Relief as part of its Wine Relief initiative.

Booths wine buyer said: “What a pleasurable way to help raise money for charity! This is the perfect opportunity to try out a new wine or even host your own wine tasting event. I’ve chosen an easy-drinking bunch of well-priced wines from around the world that will make it a very merry Wine Relief.”

The wines include Mission Peak’s Chilean Red and White priced at just £4.08 and there’s a Hungarian Pinot Grigio for (£4.79) from Nagyrede.

Other elegant choices include Fleurie Reine de L’Arenite (£7.99) and a vibrant Rioja El Coto Crianza (£8.49).

From France comes a Silver Coast Sauvignon Blanc (£5.49) and La Chasse Cabernet Sauvignon Vin de Pays d’Oc (£6.62).

Rounding up the selection is a Dry Muscat from Brown Brothers (£5.60) which is a delicate and perfumed white.

All the money raised from the sales of the wines will be used to help vulnerable people at home in the UK and across Africa.

Red Nose Day is a UK-wide fundraising event organised by Comic Relief every two years.

It was launched live on BBC ONE on Christmas Day 1985 from a refugee camp in Sudan. The charity began with a few live events and the first Red Nose Day was broadcast three years later in 1988 and raised £15 million. To date 12 Red Nose Days have raised more than £550 million. That money has helped and is helping to support people and communities in dire need both in UK and Africa.

Wine Relief was introduced in 1999 and proved such a success it’s been a part of Comic Relief ever since.

This year’s Red Nose Day will take place on 18th March when the great British public will once again be asked to 'Do Something Funny for Money'.
