Ingredients

  • 1 packet of fruit flavoured boiled sweets
  • 350g plain flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 2tsp ground ginger
  • 100g butter, cubed and chilled
  • 175g light soft brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 4tbsp golden syrup

Instructions

Pre-heat the oven to 180*c / gas 4.

To make the biscuits sift the flour, bicarbonate of soda, ginger and salt into a bowl.
Rub in the butter until you have a mixture that resembles breadcrumbs then stir in the sugar.

In a small bowl mix the golden syrup and the egg together and pour this into the flour. Bring together to form a dough lightly kneading for 1 minute. Pop into the fridge for about 30 minutes.

Place the sweets into a freezer bag and with a rolling pin crush them and shake to mix them up.

On a lightly floured surface roll out the biscuit dough to about the thickness of a pound coin. Cut shapes out using a Christmas themed cutter and place onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Next cut out a shape in the centre of the biscuit making sure you leave a good edge around the biscuit. Now make a hole at the top of your shape using a straw so you can thread ribbon through to hang on the tree.

Fill the hole in the biscuit with the crushed boiled sweets. Bake the biscuits for 12 minutes or until golden brown.

Leave to cool completely before decorating, use icing or honey to ensure decorations stick on the biscuits.

When complete thread the ribbon through and hang on your tree.
