Cartwright & Butler

Strawberries & Cream Fudge and tin

A passion for baking and joy-filled food has been at the heart of Cartwright & Butler for 115 years. It started with two sisters, Jennie & Kathrine Adams, selling delicious cakes in the front room of a terraced house in East Yorkshire in the 1900s. They quickly expanded to their own bakery where they produced pies, cakes, puddings and preserves.

Two decades later, the next generation took over when cousins Gordon and Kathleen Arnett opened a shop and cafe in the village of Cottingham. Soon followed a new bakery in Hull and The Cake Shop in Beverley where the seeds of the business you see today were sown.

The 1960s saw the brand move into hampers with their biscuits, puddings, luxury cakes and mince pies appearing in gift baskets across the country. The company continued to expand over the next few decades with new baking innovations such as the first run of cake bars with fillings and innovative packaging for boxed cakes.

The Arnett’s then bought the small business that was Cartwright & Butler, who were experts in making homemade preserves. Fast forward to 2023, Cartwright & Butler have since welcomed a brand-new bakery where they continue to make biscuits, cakes and preserves that bring the very best tasting treats to create moments of joy every single day.

Using the finest ingredients and their own family recipes, Cartwright & Butler make source, pick and hand-pack their delicious products.
