English strawberries

Fragrant and juicy, there’s something very special about English strawberries. For more than a decade we’ve been getting ours from Jeanette and John Gore-Phillips, who grow their plants in glasshouses at Hesketh Bank. In the height of summer they’re the classic mid-tennis snack, but they’re also a simple topping for fruit tarts and pavlovas, and lovely hidden in the middle of a Victoria sandwich.
