Booths COO Nigel Murray Joins Tour 21 Team Fundraising for Cure Leukaemia

Written on February 3rd, 2021

This #WorldCancerDay we wanted to take the opportunity to raise awareness and funds for Cure Leukaemia, The Blood Cancer Charity.

Our COO Nigel Murray is taking part in an epic challenge this summer in support of the charity, participating in ‘The Tour 21.’ Nigel will be part of a team of 25 amateur cyclists riding all 21 of the gruelling stages of the 3,470km Tour de France, one week before the pros hit the course. The team is aiming to raise 1 million pounds between them for Cure Leukaemia.

I am joining former England, Crystal Palace, Wolves and Nottingham Forest footballer, leukaemia survivor and Patron of blood cancer charity Cure Leukaemia Geoff Thomas (and a team of 24 other magnificent individuals) to cycle the full Tour de France route one week ahead of the professionals in 2021.The Tour 21 will take place from Saturday June 19th – Sunday July 11th next year and we will take all 21 gruelling stages and 3,470km of the Tour de France 2021 route a week ahead of the professionals. As a team we are committed to raising £1,000,000 for the charity that helped save Geoff’s life. All funds raised from this event will be invested directly into the national Trials Acceleration Programme (TAP) network which Cure Leukaemia will begin funding from January 2020 allowing them to open and run clinical trials for pioneering treatments for the disease. Patients from an increased catchment area of over 20 million people will have access, as a result, to potentially life-saving treatments.

As part of his training, Nigel will also be heading up Team Booths in the return of our very own fundraising ‘Tour O’ Booths’ challenge, which is currently planned to take place in May 2021. Our Booths team of amateur cyclists will cycle a route that takes in all Booths stores and our HQ sites, also in support of Cure Leukaemia (Take a look at 2019’s challenge by clicking here).

If you’d like to donate to Cure Leukaemia and support Nigel’s journey on ‘The Tour 21’, you can visit his Just Giving page by clicking here, where you can also find out more about the event, sponsorship opportunities and the amazing work done by the Cure Leukaemia team.

Thank you for your support, and keep your eye on our blog and social channels for regular updates throughout the Tour 21 and Tour O Booths journeys.
