How did you get into cycling – any tips for beginners?

I’ve ridden a bike since childhood but got into cycling seriously when I stopped smoking about 20 years ago – the best thing I ever did.

A tip for beginners would be to try and be confident and assertive in road traffic – as a motorist myself I find that it contributes to a safer road environment for all.

What’s your favourite cycling snack?

Eggs,  poached, scrambled or as an omelette, but only after a ride.

What’s the one piece of kit that you need for a long ride?

Good bib-shorts with a quality chamois.

Why are you keen to support Cure Leukaemia by riding the London 2 Paris?

Having known someone with leukaemia I am keen to help fund research into this, and other types of cancer.

What’s your favourite sport to watch?

Cycling with football a close second.
