Based in Hesketh Bank, Arden Lea have been growing their plants since 1949 and have been working with Booths for over 30 years. Now on their 4th generation, it’s safe to say they are definitely the experts when it comes to knowing how to take care of poinsettias.

Here are some top tips from Director at Arden Lea Nurseries, Stuart Taylor.

Top tips if you’re buying them as a gift

  • Get them to the person as quickly as possible.
  • Take them out of the sleeve straight away by cutting the sleeve rather than dragging the plant out.
  • Always buy your poinsettia at the end of a shopping trip so they aren’t sitting in a cold car.

Where to keep them at home

  • Keep poinsettias in a nice and lit area away from cold or warm drafts.

How to take care of them at home

  • Water them from underneath.
  • Be careful not to overwater them as roots need air and water.

Grower’s Tip: You can tell when your poinsettia needs watering depending on how heavy it feels.
