Meet London 2 Paris Rider Adam Slater

Written on May 2nd, 2023

Adam Slater has worked for Booths for over 28 years and is the manager of Booths Garstang.

He’s married to Vicky and has 8 year old identical twin boys, admitting, he often has no idea who is who!

What’s your motivation to ride the L2P?

Cure Leukaemia is a great charity, I have the privilege of being part of several events that they have organised and they have all been fantastic. They are a kind and generous charity who concentrate on doing the right things for the right reasons and not just for the publicity or money. This is something that resonates and aligns with Booths perfectly.

What leg of the tour are you looking forward to?

It must be the final leg rolling into Paris finishing in such an iconic place. I’ve never been to Paris and I can’t wait to see it on two wheels!

How are you training for the tour?

Being new to cycling so far, my training has mainly consisted of going to the gym and using the spin bikes, just to build some strength into my legs. I have had a few rides out to get used to riding outside and to the bike that I have managed to borrow from Ribble Cycles. I must say now I am a fair-weather cyclist, and I am waiting for the weather to warm at least a little.

Could you share your favourite training routes? Share your Scenic rides!

Ride wise as mentioned above I haven’t been out much.  A recent ride through Rivington was enjoyable and tough, made much easier by the café they have there at the barn.

What are you eating and drinking to keep you motivated?

The short answer is I’m enjoying the treats as much as possible, (which is no change) I have a very sweet tooth and at the moment,  the Booths Bites and Hot Cross buns are a firm favourite of mine. I am allowing myself these treats after each trip to the gym or training ride. They’re an excellent motivation.

What’s your “power song” to keep you going?

Too many to choose a firm favourite however I will go with “something inside so strong” by Labi Siffre released in 1987 it’s about standing tall and up for oneself. Great lyrics when you need to feel strong and inspired.

What will inspire you when the going gets tough?

Family, making the boys proud and of knowing what we are doing will make a difference to thousands of people.

What’s your personal or inspirational motto?

I love the Lifeboat motto,  it’s both simple and powerful, “With courage, nothing is impossible.”

What do you look forward to doing once you complete the London to Paris?

Apart from the knees up, signing up for the next challenge!
