Make your summer days sun-sational with these picnic essentials.

As the days are getting warmer and the sun’s starting to make an appearance, it’s the perfect time to start planning some fun summer activities. Whether it’s a weekend picnic with friends, a Sunday fun-day or a lunch time treat to make the most of the school holidays, we have some great tips and tricks to help make sure you have a fantastic time!

Comfy picnic blanket

Tip 1: The first step to a great picnic is to choose a comfy blanket to sit on, the comfier you are the better your feast tastes!

This is arguably one of the most important parts of a picnic. Whether you choose a classic tartan blanket or your favourite wipeable picnic rug, make sure it’ll be comfortable to sit on and big enough for your whole group. A foldable one is even better so you can carry it with ease.

Tip 2: To avoid carrying home heavy, defrosted ice packs freeze a bag of grapes and use those to keep your food cold instead. Once you’ve arrived at your picnic spot, you can enjoy the grapes as a cool summer treat and your sandwiches will still be nice and fresh.

Enjoying a walk after you’ve eaten can be a lovely way to make the most of a sunny day, but it can be difficult to carry all your defrosted ice packs and empty containers. This is the perfect hack for making your picnic basket lighter so you can relish in the sun for the rest of the day!

Tip 3: Poke a hole through the middle of a cupcake case and pop your straw through, then place this on top of your drinks as a handy hack to keep the insects out.

We love all our wonderful wildlife and the insects who are out enjoying the sunshine with us, but it can be pesky when they join in your picnic. Here’s a great hack so you can enjoy your drinks of choice without any unexpected additions.

Tip 4: Don’t forget to pack a fun game to play once you’ve finished eating, whether it’s a ball to play catch, a deck of cards or another family favourite.

We love a good game for after we’ve enjoyed a tasty feast, from general knowledge to football or a classic card game, there’s so many great options to take along with you to your picnic.
