The Lake District Pound Comes To Booths

Written on August 5th, 2019

We’re very pleased to say you can now use Lake District Pounds (LD£) and buy Lake District Pound Gift Sets in selected Cumbrian Booths stores; Ulverston, Windermere, Keswick, Kendal and Penrith.

The Lake District Pound is our local currency. You can spend it to enjoy our real local community, and help keep the Lake District special!

Extract from the Lake district pound website

The Lake District Pound is a paper currency unique to the Lake District. Worth the same as Sterling pounds, only local, independent businesses accept it so you know you’re supporting the Lakes community while you spend. The notes feature famous characters and iconic landscapes representing the area’s culture and traditions, which are refreshed each year with new and exciting versions.

If you choose to keep a few LD£ notes as souvenirs, your money goes back into the LD£ project, to the Cumbria Community Foundation and the Lake District Foundation. Both of these local charities help to care for our Lakes communities and preserve their precious landscapes for us all to enjoy.

The Lake District Pound Passport

If you exchange £25 or more, you will receive a free Lake District Pound Passport, in which you can collect stamps as you explore the real Lake District and make memories. There are over 350 local shops, cafes, restaurants and visitor attractions that welcome the LD£ and more than half of these will stamp your passport with a unique stamp when you spend. You can also purchase the Passport separately for £1.

You’ll find the following stamps at our stores:

Sheep: Windermere
Rabbit: Ulverston
Red Squirrel: Penrith
Red Deer: Kendal
Otter: Keswick
