Sweet dreams are made of cheese, so that’s why this week we’re here to give you all the top tips on how to have a grate night in!

Cheese is the perfect starter for any cosy night in, whether you’re enjoying a cheese platter by the fire, complete with a comforting film or having a romantic night at home eating fondue. Discover some recipes and current top picks from our Cheesemongers in store.

Fondue Tips:

We can’t celebrate a week all about cheese without sharing our favourite fondue recipe. It might be from our series of festive activities, but fondue can be tasty all year round. All you need is a selection of goodies to dip, a good melting cheese and a raclette!

Make it a cosy and autumnal night in activity by dipping in some seasonal veggies, making your own croutons at home and trying out different combinations to create umami flavour bombs.

Fancy a cheeseboard?

We love celebrating local producers from the four counties that make up Booths Country, that’s why we’ve created our Booths Country Cheeseboard map. A celebration of Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cumbria and Cheshire, with each ‘county’ made of cheeses made by producers based in the area.

Our Cheesemongers:

Whether you need a sandwich filling for this week’s packed lunch or you’re making a cheese platter for all your friends, we have plenty of award-winning cheeses to choose from on our counters in store. Our specially trained cheesemongers are here to help and don’t forget, you can always try before you buy!

This autumn we’ve got some so much to choose from, including new exciting flavoured cheeses and lots of farmhouse classics. Here are some of our buyer’s top picks for the season:

Wensleydale and Cranberry

Creamy, crumbly and full of flavour, enjoy Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese, carefully combined with the delicate fruity succulence of sweet cranberries. Enjoy on autumn cheeseboards with artisan crackers.

Booths Special Reserve

Aged for 9-12 months, it’s smooth and strong with a sharp tang made for us in Lancashire by Dewlay Cheesemakers. Great on its own or melted on top of a warming lasagne.

Président Emmental

Matured for a minimum of six weeks to give it the classic, sweet and nutty taste. This delicious cheese works across a variety of recipes and can be enjoyed both hot and cold. It’s easily sliced and grated and turns perfectly golden when grilled.

Another new addition to our cheese counters in time for your autumn cheese board is Carrick from the Ethical Dairy, a traditional cheese made with raw milk that gives it a creamy texture. All their cheese is made with the animals in mind, with the farm implementing a model in 2019 that is built around treating the environment, people and animals with respect and kindness. This means that after being born, all the calves stay with their mothers, leading to happier healthier cows and great tasting cheese.
